Behaviour has changed since heat 2 weeks ago
Help! I adopted a 6 1/2 year old female purebred shepherd on Oct 11 of this year. She was used for breeding and the owner wanted to retire her to a family on a farm.... that is us. She has been a wonderful dog and bonded to me quickly. We were planning to having her spayed in December, but she started her heat cycle on November 23. She finished discharging 2 weeks ago. However, her behaviour has changed in the last 2-3 weeks. She no longer wants to go on walks (we were doing 45 min to 1 hr each morning). She no longer sleeps through the night -- she is up and down and wanting to go outside. She is drinking a lot of water and needs to pee frequently. Lately, she is having loose bowel movements. We are at a loss as to what has happened to our happy dog.
Any insights into this strange behaviour would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Get to the vet tomorrow (tonight?)! No matter what she is sick if her behavior is that different.
And if it is associated with her heat cycle it may be pyrometra which can be fatal... Pyometra & Uterus Infections in Dogs Pyometra

Vet - NOW.
Pyometra can be fatal if left too long.

Can you spay her to really make sure about the pyrometra? Or is she too sick?
