Default Ear Wound - Iodine?

Don't ask me how it happened. I didn't see it happening, but I suspect that she stuck her head somewhere it doesn't belong. She's so not graceful and pretty much forces her way through anything and if it doesn't fit, she makes it fit...

Anyhow, I cleaned it with warm water, put her immediately on antibiotics that I have left over from her previous injuries (no, they are not expired ), called the vet and they said I pretty much did everything they would have done.

A friend suggested Saline and I was thinking about putting Iodine on it and then just let it dry out.

Vet said to come in Monday morning.

Any ideas what else I could do? Probably not much more that can be done, huh?

I'm glad it's not worse and that it's still standing.

mrs k --- vetericyn ---

I would not have put her on anti biotics , for a skin wound .

Vetericyn for the wound --- pro biotics for the replacing of the disturbed digestive flora .

See if you can find some Vetericyn. I saw it at Petco, and I am thinking they should have it at Tractor Supply, too.
That looks painful, poor girl

if there is still a skin flap, by Monday it is too late to stitch, which I would think should be done....I would rinse with saline, then betadine {if that is what you are calling iodine} and put antibiotic cream like the vetericyne or neosporine with lidocaine over it....

Iodine hurts. I remember my mom putting that on me as a kid and the sting of the iodine was worse than the original cut.

What about polysporin? There are other non sting alternatives. I forget what we replaced iodine with.

Vetericyn might be hard to find unless you go to a petstore/feed store. I agree with Lee, look for Betadine which is easy to find in a drug store,,you can dilute it, and also agree with Lee, neosporin also easy to find..

Vetericyn is a disinfectant not an antibiotic

No skin flap left. I already looked for that, and it was the reason I called the vet right away. I cut the hair off surrounding the wound.

It looks like betadine is the same as Jod/Iodine.

I see that I can get everything today.

Vet said to put her on antibiotics just in case because it was pussing.

"Anyhow, I cleaned it with warm water, put her immediately on antibiotics that I have left over from her previous injuries (no, they are not expired "

I looked Betadine up. It is the Iodine I am looking for. Thanks so much for the name.
