Default Super itchy for 5 months!

My GSD, Misty, who will turn 2 on Christmas day, has been super itchy for the past 5 months with lots of red bumps on any bare skin showing and a couple small patches of fur missing. I posted a few months ago on here asking the same question. I've seen the vet too many times to count... He at first said it didn't sound like allergies at all (Misty is also raw fed) and not fleas. Instead he was thinking it was sarcoptic manges (scabies) and treated Misty.

It seemed to work pretty good, but did not get rid of all her itchyness, so he gave her a super strong dose manges specific. Misty was almost entirely better, but then it came back. Well, anyways, after a few more different treatments, each having the same affect, the vet is wanting to try treating allergies next. He really is a excellent and passionate vet, but I think going off Misty's raw food diet is the wrong decision and is not going to solve the issue.

We don't have a lot of money to keep spending on this problem... so I was hoping someone could point us in the right direction here. It sounds to me like she has manges, but I guess I don't understand how she would of got it. When she got whatever this is, we had not been around any dogs for awhile, due to the extreme heat (my understanding is you can only get it from other animals). Her itchiness is primarily on her stomach, but also very much on her muzzle, armpits, and all sides of her legs. Do you think it could be manges? Or could it be allergies? Any other ideas? I would like to still see my vet as he is so wonderful, but do you think I should try a specialist? Would it be worth the higher price? Ugh, I just don't know what to do anymore. She is itching as we speak.

Possible zinc deficiency, or zinc copper imbalance

see this link Zinc ThePossibleCanine

Was/is she on spot on flea/tick/heartworm prevention? Vaccinated (any) within a couple days to months prior to start of itch or at time of starting prevention.

If so, this could be sign of liver toxicity...milk thistle and dandelion (tincture) to detox

Thanks GatorBytes! That was a lot of interesting information! The month before she got her itching was the only month I forgot to give her her flea/heartworm prevention. It would figure, right?

Well, we ended up taking her to a dermatologist vet today. The vet said Misty has yeast infections, bacterial infections, probably an allergy to dead fleas (?), and maybe something else. I can't believe my vet didn't catch the infections, but the dermatologist vet said that the infections would have made it almost impossible for any treatments to work (I don't know why). But anyways, I have a TON of different medicine to give her. Hopefully this works, though!
