Should my dog have human food? i don't want her to have any but my mom give her food every here and there. I still don't want her eating it at all but if it won't hurt, to have some every now and then right?
My mom gives her hot dogs......which is not even good for people. |

I've always given the Hooligans table scraps keeping in mind that there are some foods humans can eat that can cause problems with dogs like chocolate and onions.

I love questions like this LOL of course they can ... what do you think they ate before the invented kibble?
My dog has never had kibble! Dogs can eat most human food ... meat, bones, organs, some fruits / veggies, etc. There's a huge list of human foods that dogs can eat ... BUT there's also a list of foods that dogs can't eat. There MUST be a sticky in here somewhere ... this forum has amazing information ... just a matter of finding it. The other thing you need be cautious about is some human foods can / will upset your dog's stomach ... and some dogs are allergic to some foods ... it's all trial and error and watching your dog closely! Have fun experimenting BUT be sure to look for the list of safe / hazardous foods first!

I feed my boy raw...but admit nothing goes to waste in my house. Any left over meat from meals he gets, or veggies. We eat pretty healthy and he's lean and not in any danger of being over weight....moderation for everything.
But our rule is he's never fed from the table, it goes in his food dish after we clear the table or I put it in the fridge for a snack later. |

The only time my dogs do not get "human" food is while I am sitting at the table eating my own food, when I am done any meat or veggies go in thier dinner. If there aren't a lot of leftovers I cook them their own chicken or meat. I make liver brownies from "human" food, liver, potato flakes, flour, eggs, chicken broth & garlic.
I don't like using hotdogs, I personally don't eat them except maybe at a bbq during the summer. For humans the less processed food the better, same for dogs since kibble is processed make sure it is a good quality kibble.

We are slowly moving towards raw human treats for my guy and he loves them but he also gets table scraps - usually leftovers but he does have a huge sweet tooth and even stole a Dot that had dropped on the floor!

Depends on what kind of human food we are talking about. Meat, vegetables and grains are generally fine.
Dairy, with the exception of lactose-reduced dairy like yogurt and cottage cheese, is not always well digested. Eggs are great. Onions, grapes/raisins, and chocolate are toxic in large quantities. Many people like to use hot dogs for training, but I don't like to give a lot of highly processed, salty foods. |

Hot dogs....I used to train with hot dogs until I had a baseline bloodwork done on Jax the day after training and her pancreas level was up by 3000. Dog do not need high fat in their diet and it can cause very bad issues.

We don't give table scraps because I cook with onions a lot.
But we do give them carrots, green beans, rice, strawberries, pumpkin, chicken and cheese. Things that are hand held are usually training treats, the pumpkin and rice are nice bowl treats.
