Poor girl! Keep us updated. Sending positive thoughts for results from hot compresses.

Did the vet mention a retrobulbar abscess? It sounds very similar to what my boy has just gone through. He was put under a general and they drilled a hole from the back of his mouth to the back of his eye for drainage. My vet also said that they have to be so careful due to possible damage of the eye.

No Bianca he did not- if we have to go back on Thursday I will ask. Despite my grousing my vet is very indulgent of my constant questions and need to see every test, xray, etc. He recently assigned the fresh out of vet school guy to me and I am sure it is so the poor fellow gets some practice in the crazy owner category. I did ask if the new lump was a part of the first lump (like pus draining to that side- I mean I know nothing of doggie anatomy) He said the septum keeps things separated so I just dropped that and focused on his suggestions. I will definitely ask about retrobulbar abscess....

I'm curious if shaving the area where you are applying the hot compress would help.
When I see abscess I think of an abscess in a horse's hoof. A compress can be made utilizing a bran & flax seed mixture that creates a heat and draws out the abscess. A boot is made (diaper & duct tape) and changed out twice daily. I can't think of how that can be applied in this scenario though. Poor baby. My jaws hurt just thinking about it. I'm with you, I get real icky when thinking about poking eyeballs. Argh.

She is rubbing her lump on the hardwood floor with some considerable force. Poor baby. I would try to shave the area...but she really does not like me holding her face. I can't think how I would shave it without holding her. The fur is pretty short on her face so I hope this is good. I wish I could wrap a heating pad or something around her for a bit....

We decided to do more abx and antinflamatory. She is going in at noon today for the vet to take look. The initial lump, though still large, has shrunk. She is rubbing it on EVERYTHING which concerns the vet. He says that means we need to do some different pain control based on the rubbing. The secondary lump is exactly as it was since it appeared. Her spirits are good- she is here talking to me as I type.

So...the lump is still pretty big. I called the doctor and he wants to have her come back on Wednesday morning. Though in person we discussed better xrays and maybe drainage attempt the girl on the phone mentioned pulling more teeth and doing a biopsy! A biopsy??? Is he thinking cancer???? I am now panicked!

A biopsy will just help them determine exactly what the lump is. It doesn't necessarily mean cancer. Try not to panic. I know it's easier said than done.
