Default What kind of insulin is best for a German Shepherd?

German Shepherd has been diagnosed with diabetes and I want to start giving treatments at home. Any suggestions on the best type of insulin to use?

Please don't treat your GSD with insulin on your own. There is rapid acting, short acting, long acting and insulin like Lantus which is for 24 hour use. Your dog will metabolize the drug differently than a human. They must be taken a very specific times, you need to know the onset, peak, half life and duration of each specific type of insulin.

Insulin is so serious a drug, that in hospitals, you need two nurses to check and sign off on the correct dosage.

Please consult a vet for treatment recommendations. Who knows maybe they will start with a conservative treatment through diet.

While under a vets care and managing with their recommendations, the best treatment is to reverse with a home-made RAW food diet...under a vets care a trained vet in holistic medicine and certified nutritionist

This is the BEST.

My first cat became diabetic because of commercial cat food. Switched to raw food and within two months had reversed his diabetes and he was healthier than he'd ever been!

CONSULT WITH A VET. DO NOT DO THIS ON YOUR OWN.

Good luck
