ripped pad on back of paw

We went to the dog park today and let Brutus run. When we came home I noticed something dangling from his paw. I went to look at it and it was torn with a piece of skin dangling from it. I cleaned it really good with soap and water and have been watching it.( which by the way made me cry when he started crying in pain). He isn't limping and it just looks like the top of the skin came off. I also put a little neosporin on there. Is there anything I can do to make sure he doesn't keep licking it? or is there any signs of infection that I need to watch for? I saw a little bit of blood on his fur after we had gone to the store about an hour later. I plan to keep cleaning with soap and water and making sure he doesn't get into anything dirty.

I had the same thing happen a few months ago. My vet trimmed it, and said keep it clean, and use Desitin to give it a barrier. Only problem is then you get desitin tracked everywhere. During the day I put it on and then stuck a sock over her foot....She was good as new in no time. But she must have been in a lot of pain for a day or two, because she was acting like she was drugged....

happend with kyra, cleaned it with betadine and covered with crazy glue. worked for us, but hers was more of a cut.
