Default Pre-emptive stomach tack?

Searched, but I didn't find anything.

I understand a lot of police & military dogs get their stomachs tacked to eliminate the possibility of torsion, even if they haven't had a problem before.

Have any of you done this for your dogs? Especially those of you who participate in active sports and protection work?

Thanks!

I haven't had it done and probably won't. I know someone with Dobes who has had lots of bloat problems with her dogs and had at least one tacked.

I would never do it unless my dog has bloated in the past or his line has a history of bloating.

My dog's dad died of bloat. Kopper will be getting his stomach tacked when he's around 2.

Had my younger male tacted a couple of years ago as precaution--already had the experience of rushing the old guy (when younger) to emergency in full torsion--thankfully I was home at the time!!!! One GDV experience was enough!!! Also one of my females was tacted during a foreign object obstruction surgery a couple of years ago-would like to get my other two females done sometime.

If you guys don't mind my asking - what did you pay for the tacking?

Eyra's stomach was tacked when she was spayed, just as a precaution, no history of bloat in her lineage, but my vet still suggested we go ahead and do it.

Can't remember what I paid, it was almost 4 years ago, but I am guess with the spay and tack it was around $600.

Texas A&M teaching hospital quoted me around $500 for the neuter and gastropexy.
