Default Tapeworm or Nylabone pieces?

Has anyone every had this dilemma before? Today when I was inspecting Aid's poop, I noticed white pieces in it and immediately thought of tapeworms, but they weren't moving. While doing some online investigating, I read that some people who give their dogs Nylabones have found pieces before. He was chomping away on his already mutilated Nyla last night. Could that be it? Do tapeworm segments always move?

Well he just pooped again and upon some disgusting further inspection, it is indeed hard plastic Nylabone pieces. Phew!

Yes, at least some of the worms would be moving if it was tapes.
Also you'd see dried ones stuck to the fur around his anus, because they actually crawl out of the butt and...well, get stuck there.

Gross! NO worms near the butt..thankfully.

Thanks for the info! I learn something new every day. I didn't realize he'd really done that much damage to the bone. I'm gonna stick to bully sticks I think..

Oh I did that once too and nearly lost my lunch. I could not believe what that looked like coming out...

Goes to show how much time out of my day I actually spend looking at crap.

Oh the everyday joys of doggie ownership I remember having to train my boyfriend to actually watch the dogs poop everyday so that we'd know if anything was going on. He thought I was crazy... still does probably but at least he watches now!

Tapes also don't shed all the time. if there were pieces in the poop for multiple poops it isn't necessarily worms. In fact you can test your dog for worms even if you've seen the worms in a bowel movement RIGHT before you take them to the vet, and the fecal sample can come up negative unless they send it off to the lab.

Hahaha!!! The first time I saw Nylabone pieces in poop was a bit shocking to me as well.

I make my own dog treats, and over the years I have learned what ingredients pass through to the other end unchanged. Sesame seeds, sunflower seeds...
