Maybe I'm imagining things, maybe not, I don't know anymore. My fiance will probably deny it, but I swear....Since we brought Chip home, Koda has had a runny nose! He seems to sniffle (Not reverse sneeze) to clear his nose, lick his nose a lot, and I can see a small amount of clear runny discharge coming from his nose. What's the deal?
He's up to date on all shots. Distemper, rabies, parvo, bordatella, etc. The new dog, Chip, came with all of his shots. I don't know where this is coming from. Trey thinks it's the cold air, since Koda and Riley just moved to a cold environment and they're not used to it. He also mentioned allergies, dust, etc., but I don't know. I might be paranoid because he's my baby, but I don't think it's any of that because I didn't notice it until after Chip came home. Does anyone have any ideas?

How long have you had Chip? Where did you get him from and how long ago was the Bordatella vaccine?
I wouldn't be worried about a little sniffling if both dogs are eating, drinking and otherwise acting normal. Dogs get colds just like people and they usually recover on their own. Just keep an eye out for worsening symptoms.

Wolfie has had a runny nose for the past few days. I just assumed it's because of the cold winter air, or he may just have a little cold. His nose drips every once in a while, and I have been carrying a Kleenex with me to wipe it when I see it.

We've had Chip for about 2 weeks now. We adopted Chip from Petsmart through an Animal "Sanctuary". He ended up at the "Sanctuary" by way of a Shelter that was overcrowded. I just checked his paperwork and he got Distemper, Parainfluenza, Parvo, Adenovirus II, and Rabies. He was dewormed as well, but no Bordatella apparently? Koda, however, has been vaccinated for Bordatella.
Chip does a lot of reverse sneezing, though. He does seem to cough and hack, but not much. I think we might be reading a little too much into it, I don't want to "see things that aren't there". Koda isn't coughing or hacking, he's just got the runny nose with the small amount of clear discharge. He's otherwise acting, eating, and drinking normally. So basically I should just watch him and if it seems to worsen, then I should be concerned?

I'd be worried about kennel cough or possibly an upper respiratory infection. How are his eyes? Any extra goop? Notice any green mixed in that runny nose fluid? Any coughing?

Even with the bordetella vaccine, your dog can still get kennel cough from the other strains and mutations that the vax does NOT cover.
The Kennel Cough Myth http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com...cination-dogs/ There is a doggy cold going around here, just a virus - that will run its course. But if you have any concerns I would definitely bring it up to your vet. With some of the dogs here, they develop a secondary infection due to the cold and a course of antibiotics can be in order. |

Never getting that pointless vaccine ever again unless it's mandatory for something.

My pup Sid has had a clear running nose for two years since he moved in with me. It goes away if he's outside for a few hours, but comes back indoors. Our vet says its just an allergy, nothing to really worry about. I still dab him with a tissue when he's dripping all over me.

No green that I can see, just clear. No eye goop. Check out the pictures of him I posted in the pictures section (Koda In Snow). They were taken a couple days ago. That should give you an idea of what he looks like, right? In the pictures his eyes look clear. No coughing that I've noticed. He reverse sneezed once recently. He just seems to be sniffling...

If you aren't giving vitamin C start now...I'd also give probiotics/digestive enzymes. C should be introduced slowly 500mg to start then up it over a week to 1000mg(split between meals) daily. After that, if the dogs are doing ok on the dosage you can up it to 2000mg(split between mealtimes) It is a natural antihistamine and will support the immune system. I had a foster with reverse sneeze, it was a respiratory infection that he got over after a few weeks with me/he also had conjunctivitis. Make sure your house has some humidity too, it will help all of you!
