My boy Maximus is about 04 months and 01 week old as now, received 02 shots of combined vaccines already. His puppy coat is changing as well as his tooth. I feed RAW in the morning and kibble in the afternoon. Three weeks ago he has had some coughing thru the day without runny nose and/or discharge eyes, kind of sound we make with the nose when we have nasal congestion. Except that mild symptom, he is very active, good appetite and growing strong. I took him to VET, they said he got a symptom of dog flu, or kennel cough and this should be fade away after few days. VET gave antibiotics for 10 days (500mg per day). Finished the medicine, my boy is still making that uncomfortable noise, this time I can hear like he is sneezing (without runny nose). VET recommended another 10 days on antibiotics, but I found somehow unreasonable giving medicine without knowing the cause of sickness for sure.
Appreciated your advice, and thanks in advance. Last edited by gsd_newbie; 02-06-2012 at 05:39 AM. Reason: photo attaching |

Discharge is usually a sign of infection.....infection requires antibiotics.
The worse thing you can do is not give enough antibiotics to actually fight off the infection. When antibiotics are stopped too soon, a resistance to them can occur, and the infection become harder to fight.
