Question Metal Addiction in a GSD

Hi there. I have a GSD that has an addiction to anything metal. She seeks it out. Pennies, buttons, zippers, nails, screws, earrings, you name it...she will find it within seconds of someone leaving it within her reach. She has destroyed I can't even count now how many pieces of clothing, jewelry and shoes doing this. One time I even woke up to her pulling a metal piece off the bed!

Yes, I have tried to make sure the house is free of little metal objects that she might locate and ingest. But it still happens. I have asked her vet that just said it was probably an OCD thing. My trainer suggested a superfood supplement to give her more zinc and such in her diet. I haven't noticed that much of a change in her since I started that, which we are on jar number two of the supplement now.

Anyone else experienced this? Anyone have any advice on how to break this?! It isn't a puppy thing, she is approximately 7 years old, but I don't know her history, I have only had her a year and a half after rescuing her from a shelter. Any advice on this would be appreciated!

Welcome to the site! Blood work - she could be anemic. I will be back with links if I can find them, if not...still do the blood work, but I may not be right!

Finally found one that seems reputable: http://www.justanswer.com/dog-health...ften-mean.html

I found another site that listed some other things that could be wrong as well.

There is also a condition called pica (humans can have it too) which involves ingesting inappropriate stuff. There is quite a bit of information available on it on line.
