At first it was just one big scab on the side right behind the back leg. That one didn't get any worse, but now they're all over the pup's legs, and they're mostly pretty big. He has 2 small ones on the chest but mostly they're on and near the back legs. I'm going to take him to a vet soon, but thought I'd post here first in case someone may know what it is.
They don't seem to hurt or itch, or anything like that, at all even if I squeeze or touch them. |

I was worried that the mother dog looked worn out . Glad that you are getting better food . When you are out shopping get a bottle of fish oil , NOT cod liver oil . Give to the mother , the efa's will pass on to the pups through her milk, give them a better immune base. You can mix the fish oil into some cottage cheese -- greek style yogurt has a good protein level .

All the pups are fattening up nicely
and are doing very well with the exception of the scabby one. He does not seem irritated AT ALL, but the problem is there. I have tried taking a pic but it is very hard to get a good quality one. The pups fur covers them up very well. Bailey is doing well now. She was very worn out around the time she gave birth, but now she can barely stay in one spot too long. She seems very energetic and seems tired of being inside, she just wants to be outside to run around. She is definitely not worn out anymore lol. |

anyway for an update:The scabs are falling off and are no longer a problem My neighbor told me they're probably just a skin irritation caused by too much moisture on their sensitive skin. Turns out he was probably correct because they have all had it (but usually just one or two scabs, unlike the one with many all over its backside). The vet still hasn't figured it out. Time to find a new vet lol. |

May I ask if you had a "heat lamp" near the whelping box?

A very weak one. More for lighting than anything. I took out the strong bulb and put in a normal one, and it's about 4.5 ft above them. I'm keeping them inside and have been since birth, it's not too hot nor too cold for them, about 55-70 degrees.

The reason that I ask is.....perhaps it could be caused by the heat lamp being too close.
Wet puppy from mom's drool, or drinking water + heat from lamp, could result in little "crusties" of "over dried" skin.
