Default Itchy after flea medication

I noticed that Rocco gets very itchy for 4-5 days after getting his flea medication. Is this normal?

The first time I gave it to him, he was teeming with fleas and ticks (we had just gotten him). I thought the itching was all the bugs going nuts from the medication.

I just gave him the second one last week and he has been itching again.

We are giving him Frontline Plus.

I've heard of rare cases of dogs having bad reactions to Frontline but it's usually lethargy to convulsions in extreme cases.

There are counterfeit Frontline products out there which could cause reactions also.

Are you getting the Frontline from your vet or a veterinary run/owned online seller like Dr.s Foster & Smith?

We bought it from PetSmart. I called the vet and he will address it next time we go in mid-February. I've already given it to him for this month. The itching is just about over now. I just don't want to give it to him again if it's an allergic reation.

Has anyone heard of a pill that treats fleas and heartworm? The vet's secretary mentioned it to me as an option.

Revolution is a topical which controls fleas and heart worm.

Not sure what the pill form is but I've heard there is one out there.....can't remember the name...

btw- I called Merial when I was having problems with Frontline. They told me petsmart is not an 'authorized' seller of their product. I asked how in the world can petsmart have it then? They could not give me a straight answer.

I'm no longer using frontline as it's loosing it's effectiveness in certain areas.
