I have a 1 year old female that I got about 2 months ago- beautiful girl but the product of a bad breeder and poor( non-existant) socialization. She got her first round of vax with no issue, but Tuesday after I took her in for her 2nd Lepto vax, she began to act listless and lethargic. Left the group and went to lie down. Stopped eating and still not eating unless hand-fed very soupy wet food- stopped drinking and fever of 106*.
Vet does not think it is a reaction to the lepto since she has never seen a reaction like this or for so long. (Today her fever is 104 and she is still not eating.) She has had IV fluids for 3 days and forcefed water. The vet has a whole list of tests she wants to do- all at a pretty steep cost. I was just wondering if anyone else had similar reactions to the 2nd lepto vax? |

I'm sorry this happened. I do not vaccinate for Lepto and this is exactly why--there have been many cases of severe vaccine reactions to the lepto vaccine.
It doesn't matter that your vet hasn't seen this type of reaction before: vaccines can also trigger underlying disease processes that the immune system had previously been able to hold in check. With a fever that high it sounds like that is what is happening. What does blood work show?
