Default Mack is having seizures?

Hello all,

We have had a couple of scary episodes with Mack. He seems to be losing strength in the right side of his body, his legs are having trouble supporting his weight, his head drops. He stumbles around in circles, right side of his body down. His head was also shaking. We have had 3 of these episodes, the first lasted 2 minutes seconds, the second and third were much briefer, maybe 30 seconds. It happens about once a day.

We brought him to the vet, the vet had no ideas.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like seizures or possibly strokes. Are they happening the same time each day or after the same thing, like exercising? I'm surprised the vet had no ideas. When our 10 yr old gsd started having seizures she would look like she was trying to get up but couldn't, would lay back down and try again. She would look up at the sky, look at me without recognizing me then come out of it. Eventually she became so afraid and disoriented that she stayed in the laundry room.

These episodes sound exactly like seizures. Is he really disoriented immediately after?

And what do you mean his vet has no idea? What tests did they run? What did they suggest to do?

You don't mention Mack's age, but the symptoms sound similar to canine vestabular syndrom! The first time my dog had one I swore she was having a stroke or seizure.

I was going to mention vestibular as well, or could be seizures or heart problems,,I would find a different vet PRONTO..

I agree about finding another vet ASAP...to get a "I don't know answer" is unacceptable with what Max is going through.

I'm sorry, hope you get answers soon.

How old is he?

Mack is almost 6 years old and in good physical condition. The first episode occured before bedtime, we let him out for a quick pee and when he was coming in he had an episode. There was no exercise then. Since then, it has happened twice during walks and runs. It does not seem like he is in pain, nor does he seem very disorientated. He recovered quickly and after it passed he seemed fine.

After looking up vestibular disorder, the symptons seem to match pretty well.

I will keep you posted.

Good news. Mack seems to be better. He had 4 episodes in 3 days that I saw. We have not seen an episode now for 3 days.

I think it may have been vestibular. From what I read the symptons match up and it can go away on its own.

We will keep an eye on it and let you know if anything changes.

Thanks
