Question Limping In The Snow???

Just got back in from a short walk with Viktor. There is light/moderate snow here, high winds and very cold. We walked up toward the main road so I could see the conditions. At one point, I looked down and noticed Viktor was limping... not putting any weigh on his right-back paw. I looked at it and didn't see any injury. We started back to the house slowly. By the time we got back, he was walking normally, but he clearly wanted back in the house. I looked at the paw again, and didn't see anything.

Just being sensitive?

Some road salt stuck in there, that came out?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Check his paws, sometimes snow can get packed into the fur between the toes. This happens to Blitz when it snows, always a different foot, I would just pick out the snow between his paw pads and he'd be fine.

Could be ice balls stuck way up in the pads. Some snow packs up easy and my dogs don't like it, sometimes they lay down & start licking thier feet.

Same situation here this morning. Light snow and cold. Both Max and Lexie suddenly started limping. Actually, Lexie was so pathetic about her feet getting cold that she tried to lift two feet at the time...it was a hilarious scene resembling a bullet dance you see in Country Western movies. So, I suspect Victor's situation is the same. No worries.

Now that we're both warmed up a bit... we are going out to try it again.

Also, be careful with all the salt out there.

best protection would be dog boots. Other than that, clean his paws anytime you take him back into the house. Licking the salt off the paws is very dangerous for dogs.
