Hi Guys,
This is the first time i have used this forum. I have noticed a issue with my 2 German shepherds and I’m hoping to find someone who might know what the issue is. I have a 3yr 8mo male named Caesar and a 2yr 8mo female named Chilli. They both share a father (half brother and sister). Chilli has been desexed but Caesar has not. We live on a large property in Sydney, Australia and they have no other interaction with other dogs. About 6 months ago i noticed a little kink in Caesar's right hind leg. When he walks, his knee kinks out and back in again... he runs on it fine, and there doesn’t seem to be any pain associated with it but it is pretty obvious and seems to be getting more prominent as time goes on. I can see that he is putting less weight on the affected leg. We took Caesar to the vet who x-rayed him and charged me a lot of money only to tell me that they don’t know what is wrong. They stretched his leg back so that it was basically straight and in line with his spine and there was no pain at all. They referred us to a dog neurologist who also charged me a heavy amount and he also told me nothing new. Their suggestion was that we rest him for 3 weeks and give him anti-inflammatories. So we did this, and it did absolutely nothing. Then about 1mo ago I noticed Chilli has the same issue. And it seems that her leg is becoming worse, much quicker than Caesar. This now has me pretty worried. I’m really hoping that someone can give me some direction here. Is it a muscular problem? If it is, wouldn’t it have helped to be rested and anti inflamed. Is it neurological? If it is, would the neurologist have thought of something? Is it a skeletal issue? If it is when can’t we see anything on the x-ray? Please help. |

Welcome to the board!
My dog, Hunther, had a tear of the semitendinosus muscle on the inside of the leg. The general practice vet X-rayed him twice, and it didn't show up. A specialist finally caught it with an ultrasound. He was treated with regenerative stem cell therapy, and is now about 95-97% of where he was before he got hurt.

Hi Hunthers Dad,
Thanks for the response. I will have that looked into. when hunther had the issue, was there any pain with the semitendinosus muscle tear. this seems like an injury that would hurt? Caesar and Chilli show no signs of pain at all. Also, do you think that its possible that they would both get the same injury? |
