So. Remember I posted a few weeks back about the proper ivomec dose for treating mange? I'm not sure it's working...Echo now has HUGE bald spots. I'm at a loss for what to do at this point...
I've been trying emu oil, at the recommendation of my vet. Can't tell if it's working. I think it may be the same scenario as with goodwinol, where it makes it look worse initially because the rubbing causes the last of the hair to fall out... He eats Pinnacle limited ingredient, and he seems to be doing MUCH better on that than the salmon-based food he was allergic to. I'll feed raw if I have to... he gets vitamin c and echinacea, vitamin E, fish oil, raw eggs... The whole thing started when hot spots on his feet got infected. They're healed now, but it was super stressful for him. Any other ideas on what to try? I keep reading about NEEM oil- what's the protocol for this? And borax/peroxide? I've also read about using flea medications topically, with mixed responses..... help ![]() (I know this topic has been beaten to death) |

Sinister had Demodex twice, cost me a ton of money because I got ripped off by my vet.
I ended up giving him immune supplement pills the second round and it went away on it's own.

you need to address his immune system if he is getting recurrent episodes of mange .
as far as the hair and skin , it will repair. the diet for your raw version is lacking , not so good. Carmen Carmspack Working German Shepherd Dogs |

If it's generalized...and you are sure it's mange? I am going to see if I can find a thread in the rescue section.
Here it is: SAVED: URGENT-1 YR OLD M WILL DIE TOMORROW AM I would go to a dermatologist. You don't have to do what they say either, but I have seen a GSD with generalized mange become very ill. Before you do any high doses of Ivermectin, it's always a good idea to check for the MDR1 mutation through a test at Washington State. Generalized can be very serious and people need to be aware of that.

I don't know much about Demodex, besides boosting immune system as others have mentioned.
Now after we adopted our rescue....I got a crash course in sarcoptic I would evaluate diet, add suppliments and try to get his immune system very strong.
