I found a pretty decent sized patch on Lukas this morning. It wasn't as red as it is now. There wasn't any sign prior and seems like it came up over night.
Lukas has always had poor skin issues, usually on his legs and sparsing out thinly, but I've never come accross anything like this. As far as I know it kind of looks like a hotspot - but I have no knowledge on the subject. What do you think? ![]()

That is a hotspot. My dog gets terrible ones- I have to constantly check under his armpit area because if I don't next thing I know he has one five times bigger than the one your dog has. I have heard that Gold Bond Powder works-also hydrocortisone was recommended to me by the vet-but you have to be very careful that your dog doesn't lick it.

I thought so. :/ Yeah, I use frontline. I will have to give that a try. So far I've cleaned it and put some anti-itch creme on it that we had around the house. Though, from what I'm reading wasn't such a good idea, since it will only keep it moist? At least it seems to have numbed it for now.

Vetericyn is good and Neo-Predel is great. That's what I used on Moses. You can see his huge hotspot (whole side of his face) on this thread:

I got a cone for the poor guy, today we found 3 more down his side and onto the base of his tail now.
I feel overwhelmed. He is so miserable. It's oozing and goozing and so gross. He has a long shaved patch going down his side.

Poor guy.
Make sure your frontline is still effective. Fleas (even one) can cause scratching and biting. I speak from experience. I didn't have my dogs on flea prevention as I've never needed it. My dog must have picked up flea(s) from training and it took me three months to finally find one. We didn't have a huge outbreak, but enough to cause itchy/scratchies and hotspots to develop on both Onyx and Kacie. |

Ouch! Definitely a hot spot. Coke gets them every once in a while. If they are not in a bad location, we get the hair around it shaved, clean it, and just let it be. He has to wear a shirt or something to keep him from licking it. I find the more remedies and stuff I put on a wound the more the dog tries to lick at it so I just make sure it's clean and not accessible. Generally the inflammation goes down right away and it scabs over.
If they are in a bad location, sometimes I do treat with antibiotics and steroids. Like last time he got a huge one on the base of his tail and it was spreading to his anus. I did NOT want to deal with it creating some sort of anal gland problem or fistulas or anything like that so I did treat it with medications that time.

Well, thought I would give an update. After a grand total of 7 spots popping up. This is what Lukas looks like now...Considerably better. The ones on the right are newer so they look worse, but otherwise everything just looks like a dry patch.
![]() Honestly the vetericyn is working really well for them. But I did go to the vet and get him some anti-biotics and steroids.
