Did the vet give a reason for this outbreak? Any skin scrapings done? Usually hot spots are caused by moisture getting trapped in the undercoat(could be from constant licking) I would want to know the reason as the steroids are just going to take away the symptoms, but not treat the cause.

Seeing as how this was his first time getting them, she said they were most likely environmental (or fleas) but I could argue all day that he doesn't have fleas and somebody would say "EVEN ONE FLEA" sooo, we changed him to comfortis. We'll see if we can pin point it if they continue to come back. If that's the case, I'll probably have them run some allergy tests.
This was my first time with this vet, I was getting annoyed with my old one, and so far I really like her, she specialized in dermatology and explained everything to me, so I'm feeling confident about it.

I hear ya about that "only one flea!" I found only one in my house after my dogs had been scratching for a few months(never, ever had a flea problem in 20 years!)
I hope the Comfortis helps and Lukas skin heals quick! |
