Default Swallowed Lemon

Kastle counter-surfed half of a lemon and swallowed it whole last night when Jason was making dinner (Jason said he had already squeezed out most of the juice). He ralfed it up, still whole (and green instead of yellow - weird), this morning. He's been puking ever since. During the day today he has puked 5-6 times. The first two times, bile and dog food and the rest of the day just water with some bile. No gagging or pre-puke behavior. He just stands up, opens his mouth and water pours out. He's a little lethargic but was fine on his walk today and is playing with Ike fine when given the chance. Just a little more mellow than usual. Should I keep letting him drink water as much as he wants? Should I skip dinner? He thinks he's naughty every time he does it since I leap up to get him outside as fast as I can but I feel so bad! Naughty puppy!

I would get some slippery elm bark, 2 capsules make it into a paste with a bit of yogurt, cottage cheese, or scrambled egg and try to have him eat that(small amount)That will coat his gut and reduce the acid. I'd skip his dinner and limit water to 3 oz at a time. The water is causing upset too. Bland diet tomorrow w/ slippery elm a half hour before he eats(if he stops barfing overnight). Otherwise just do the SE paste again tomorrow am.
Poor Kastle

Are you sure the entire amount he ate came out? I would be worried about an obstruction with all of the puking. The problem should have resolved once he threw it back up.

Have you fed him? IF so, what happened after you fed him? What's coming out the other end?

If you think his digestive tract is just irritated now I would go with slippery elm and then follow it a half hour later with something like overcooked brown rice and pureed chicken.

Paste or tablets I just put the slippery elm directly into the dog's mouth.

Will Meijer or a supermarket like that carry the slippery elm or do I need to go to a health food store? Thanks Jane. Yes, he is snuggled on the couch with Eden and I, very mellow

Yes, we're sure. It was a lemon cut in half that he ate (and squeezed) so the whole half (does that make sense?) came back up. So flat on one side and rounded on the other, no pieces of lemon etc. We were thinking the acid was making him ill. He had it in his stomach all night and puked it out this am.

I fed him his breakfast and he wolfed it down. He's pooped 1 more time than usual today but they were all small and "normal" i.e. firm. He's peeing fine as well. Went for a 20 min walk today and was fine. Just a little more mellow than usual but not a big leap or anything.

Meijer has SE, in the holistic/health herb section of the pharmacy, not the vitamins.

If you think it's the acid then the slippery elm would be a good choice along with the bland, overcooked brown rice + protein diet. The brown rice would help absorb the acid. Wholegrain bread would also absorb acid.

We were going to go to a movie tonight but opted not to go so we could keep an eye on puke-y puppy. I'm not putting him in his crate so I know exactly when/how much he's puking and I can keep him out of it. It's so quiet because he isn't gagging that if I wasn't right on top of him when he did, I'd probably not hear it.
