Default Neck Strain - How to keep 'em quiet?

Bear was out with me and Fred the other day, and we met another GSD out in the park near the beach. All was going really well with running about and being generally playful and foolish, three boys together having fun.

Bear ran headfirst into Fred who is a big black cliff in dog clothing.

It wasn't a head clash, Bear saw the collision coming and ducked his head and whacked into Fred with the back of his neck above his shoulders. Some whining and generally feeling sorry for himself for a couple of minutes. Back into playing but slower and we went home soon after.

He seems to have a stiff neck. We went to the vet for another issue the next morning (puppy pyoderma) and had Aimee look at his neck too. He does not have anything out of place, but is he turns his head wrong or shakes too hard he squeaks.

The little booger will insist on wrestling with Fred, which makes him squeak. Five minutes unattended and he went bowling across the tiles after hassling Fred outside the front door. Fred is cowering knowing he did something wrong and I have an armful of crying puppy for a minute.

I wouldn't mind getting hm a sedative of some sort and having him sleepy for a couple of days. It's Sunday the 1st here, and I don't know if I can get a Vet to look at him for a couple of days after the weekend.

Advice?

Will they answer questions?

Can you get Arnica?

Where are you located? Chiropractic or laser therapy would be the best thing.

No, that would be a somewhat impractical trip...

I'm in the North Island of New Zealand, South Pacific, sort of down and to the right of Australia across the Tasman Sea.

I'm going to try for a Vet appointment today and see if I need a referral to a specialist.

The problem is that I don't know what his pain threshold is? He is so young, that I don't know if he is a stoic, or a crybaby.

I have a suspicion that he is a crybaby as opposed to a stiff upper lipper, but I just don't *know*.

That would be quite a commute!

Slight neck misalignments can cause subtle issues that can become chronic over the years. Neck pain is NOT fun.

Don't know if these are helpful or not, I just googled animal chiropractic and New Zealand:

Animal Chiropractic | science | physiology | osteology | neurology

Animal Chiropractic | Performance | Competition | Equestrian | Agility Dogs (Equinox Animal Chiropractic | Facebook )

Index

I misunderstood, Arnica the herb, not the Clinic..

I do have a soothing formula and a mild sleepy time sedative from the Vet. It will be Wednesday before I can see anyone. I'll keep him away from Fred's rough play and crated when not out walking round the block on the soft collar & yard to toilet.

How do I give the Arnica? Advice on dosage? I did find stockists in town where I can get some, pills, powder, lotions and drops.

Arnica

Advice on how to use this? Bear is 3 1/2 months old and weighs 16 kilos, or 36 pounds.

Get the little pillules. You can just toss them in his mouth. In acute situations I give a dose every hour for 4 hours and then move to 4 or 5 times a day.

Thank you! I have contacted both groups and told my tale of woe. We will see who answers me back. I'm not going to be able to get anyone on the phone or mail until at least Wednesday I think. I have a sinking feeling that any help in this regard is going to be at a distance as well.

Mmmmm. We will see. NZ is still pretty rural outside of the main centres.

We are going out shortly, I will see what I can find. Any idea of the concentrations (active ingredient) of what you use so I can compare to what I can source?
