Default Firecrackers driving dog crazy - is this safe to give to him?

I dread this day every year, because we get the loudest firecrackers you have ever heard and you hear them non-stop.
Believe me, sometimes you can't tell if those are firecrackers or power weapons being fired or hand grenades (sometimes they actually ARE the two latter ones, sad but true).

Anyway, those nasty things affect one of my dogs, my GSD mix, while the other two (GSD and Poodle) don't really react to them. I'm trying to keep him calm with a "safe" place he can get into, aka dog house with blankets, but I have read you can give him something to calm them down.

I have these natural pills, are they safe to give to him? If so, should I give him 1 or 2?

Vivinox N
They contain: Valerian, Hops and Passionflower.

It also says they're coated, would that still do him any good?

Can you bring him inside for his comfort and safety?

I'd agree with WVGSD. Find a thundershirt and an interior closet to go hang out in.

I get him inside, but he runs around the house and opens the doors to get outside again. He does that every single time.

Right now he's inside a semi-closed space outside, you can think of it as a long garage, except there are three walls. that's where I put his dog house, and he does the same. Gets inside, gets outside of it.

You should be able to give those pills, for an adult GSD, you can give a human sized dose.

Do you have a t-shirt that you can put on him? You would need to make it snug, but not tight. It gives the dog a sense of being held and is comforting sensation. There is a website that you can go to for more information - www.thundershirt.com.

In the meantime, a snug shirt can be put on him and may help a good deal.

Thanks, LisaT! I'm giving two to him then.

WVGSD, thank you for the tip! I'm gonna put one of my t-shirts on him.

Oh wow... the t-shirt helped A LOT! He did calm down quite a bit now that he has it on. I gave him two of the pills anyway.
