Default Cyra's results on VDI Hemangiosarcoma study

Thought I would start a new thread instead of taking over the existing one which is for the study.

This is the previous discussion - my older female Cyra had a clearly elevated result in the VDI study for hemangiosarcoma.

Hemangiosarcoma study - GSDs only!!!

Today I call the vet for the appointment for surgery
Next week I call VDI to discuss what we currently do and don't know and see what follow up info they want.

The vet said the tumor was strange-the aspirate would indicate a lipoma but there was a gristly component she did not like and she said sometimes hard tumors do *not* show up on an aspirate.

I hate waiting. Surgery on Tuesday, and I'm guessing pathology report hopefully will be back by Friday?

I bet from what Natalie did, they will want an abdominal u/s.

I imagine they will run a confirmation test first then ask for it.

When I call on Monday I will mention the tumor on her wrist and that the doctor could not get any cancer cells on aspirate but did not feel too good about its gritty nature.

Fortunately there is a board certified specialist in that about 20 minutes from here......he is the one who looked at Grim's spleen.....I hate putting Cyra through surgery to have a tumor removed and a tooth extracted if she does have hemangiosarcoma but will will treat her like a diva.

Well, she is at the vet as we speak getting queued up for surgery. I guess we really won't know much for a few days.

So they are doing surgery on her leg and an ultrasound too?

Hoping all goes well - has she had a surgery before?

No, just the leg surgery. (and the fractured pre-molar coming out)

If the next blood test is positive VDI will probably want to do an ultrasound but I will make sure they have the surgery report and biopsy results of the leg tumor because that may be enough for them.

She has been spayed, had an emergency tounge repair*, and had a root canal - and did well with surgery in the past. Fortunately her bloodwork is all good (we did a senior panel a few weeks ago)

That was a darned bloodbath. The ER vet took her back before I finished at the desk. She cut the main vein in her tongue and she was weak for a few days after that one. My car looked like chain saw massacree.
