I have a 2 1/2 year old Female. Its weird because it seems she goes into heat every 2 1/2 to 3 months. I have logged it since Ive had her, the recent being the end of Sept, and May. Now she showing once again that she is about to(She gets really skinny and acts a certain way...Stupid I know but I just can tell) I plan to breed her one day, have already gotten her hips certified but I am not ready myself to breed. Thanks again for any input.....AND YES I LIKE MALINOIS LOL

Long as you are working towards (click this --> Things to look for in a 'Responsible' Breeder ) BEFORE you breed, then I'm sure you'll get all kinds of support here.
Unfortuneately we've had alot of irresponsible and backyard breeders join up, plus our general depression caused by the Urgent and Non-urgent rescue sites which clearly shows there are more than enough good GSD's out there already.... BTW, what does your breeder say about one of her dogs coming into heat so freqently? Is it common in their lines? I know my bitches come in only about every 6 months. But I spayed them all before 2 yrs old (knowing I wouldn't make the 'responsible breeder' cut ).Welcome to the board!

Agree with Maggie. Also be aware that heat cycles that often is pyo in the making. Get her spayed before she pyo's and you lose her. The chances of her being able to conceive are almost neil....the uterus doesn't have enough time to rest with cycles that often.

Where did you get her? If you don't want to post it, you can send it in a private message.

Usually a bitch that cycles that often does not ovulate at all. The cycle is not long enough between and the uterous does not have enough time to actually slough off the lining and get ready for another cycle because it is so short a time.
I have had short cycle bitches and very rarely will they conceive since they do not ovulate. They come in season but if you do progesterene testing, most the time it shows no ovulation. I have also had bitches develop pyometra because of the condition of the uterous with so many cycles. Not sure how your vet knows she is fine reproductively unless he is doing progesterone testing every cycle. |
