My GSD has been losing muscle mass in her rear legs. I thought probably because she has not been excercising as much because of the cold weather. In the last couple of days she has begun to lose control of her back legs, especially the right. She's been dragging herself around, with her back legs partially supporting her. She does not appear to be in any pain, and reflexes appear normal. Other times, she will walk pretty much normally. No problems with eating or elimination, and she is sleeping well and in good spirits. Any ideas what I might be looking at? We have a vet appt. for next Wed. My last GSD died suddenly at age 9, and here we are again...I'm sad and scared (and also unemployed which makes this all the more difficult).

So sorry you are having such a troublesome time. It is hard to say what it could be.....good to check with your vet. Wish I had better advice. We are dealing with an old guy who is aging much faster than we'd like as well...it is so hard.

I wouild take her in - could be DM, spondylosis, or arthritis from undiagnosed HD.
Loss of rear muscle mass seems to be a common aging issue.
