Angry Root canal and cap

Has anyone needed to get a root canal and cap for your dog? My dog has a crack half way up his upper k9 tooth. I want it fixed and not pulled, my vet doesn't do dental work so was unable to give me a ball park on the price to repair. Any info out there?

I have done the root canal but not the cap - the board certified vet dentist who did my root canal said the crown prep for the titanium jacket would weaken the tooth even more and only recommended if she was a bite dog. She said no other tooth covering would work.

The root canal alone was about $1200 in 2006 if I remember correctly......(all associated costs included)

I'd get a hold of a vet who specializes in teeth. I had a male who broke the tip of his canine but the root was OK. I did a gold cap, titanium wasn't around then.

Some vets specialize in teeth but are not board certified. You definitely want to make sure for that procedure and the dog will be under for a good while so I sprung for the more expensive anesthetic (I think it was sevoflourane) with fewer side effects.

I found a vet in baton rouge but did not check if he was board certified, I'll call and ask tomorrow.

There is an excellent dental vet by B'ham, AL.

How close are you?
