As we all know Bordatello vaccination barely covers all the strains etc.
This February my boy will be due for his 6 month bordetello. Now, because he has had SIBO, he is on Tylan every day and he is healthy as a horse between that and his B12 and antioxidants. Coat is so shiny I want to put him in a prell commercial. Tylan is not only for colitis and SIBO but as we all know is a macrolide antibiotic and used in animals for respiratory infections, including kennel cough. So the question is....does my boy even need the bordatello vaccine based on the useless nature of it and the fact that he is constantly on an antibiotic that can be used to treat such? I was thinking of talking to the daycare owner in January and signing any waiver necessary so I don't have to throw an unnecessary vaccine in him. I would think even if he got a case of it, it would be very mild based on the tylan that he receives daily (1/4 tsp 2x day) Thoughts?

I can't answer your question, however, I can tell you what I do. I never get it EXCEPT if the Hooligans are being boarded somewhere that absolutely demands that they have it. I would also get them vaccinated if there were an epidemic in this area.

I'd talk to the kennel to ask if you can get a waiver from the vet or something to not get it.
I personally don't give it at all at any point in my dogs lives. If for some reason I had to board in an emergency I would give it if it's required (Thankfully I have a list of people who are always up for watching the pups) but it's something I simply don't give otherwise. |

If my dogs system was already compromised, never would I put something into him that the immune system has to work out.
Maybe you could sign a waiver at the daycare so they won't be held liable. Though if your dog does get a respiratory, you may be blamed for others contracting KC because your dog wasn't "protected". |

Thanks everyone! That gives me meat to consider before the 6 months comes up because he does have allergies and I hate anything that pumps up his immune system unnecessarily.
