Default Dry nose - cracked

Stark has been battling a dry nose this winter.

I had it looking better and then he got in the habit of licking it.. so now it's slightly cracked and was bleeding this morning.

I have been putting Vit. E on it directly and applying vasolin to it twice per day and today put some polysporin on it but he keeps licking it off!

Is there anything I can put on top of the vasoline or polysporn to keep him from licking it?

No, there really isn't anything that you can put on top of vitamin E, polysporin or vaseline to make the dog leave it alone. Just keep reapplying.

My Brittany foster dog has a cracked area at the top of her nose and I am doing the same thing. Just keep reapplying and it gets better.

Actually instead of Vaseline, try bagbalm. it is non toxic. You can usually find it at drugstore

We tried udder butter and it actually made his nose worse because he LOVED the taste of it. He would lick and lick and lick it! LOL

Vaseline worked better since he left it alone.

The only way I could get Conor to leave the stuff on his nose alone was to apply it just before we went for a walk. I would put on the leash, rub whatever it was on his nose, have a treat ready for immediate consumption and GO GO GO before he had time to think about it. I found he was distracted enough to forget the stuff was on his nose - until we finished the walk, then he might remember it, but by then the product had time to be absorbed. The only skill necessary was to get him in motion before he started licking!! Otherwise I agree - the only way is to keep reapplying.......

Thanks guys - yes, I have been applying it and then doing something active with to keep his mind off but I do find him licking at it.

Stark is hydrated and I am giving him extra protein that is known to carry more moisture at this moment as well.

Poor guy, it's always something with him!

Ive used with good results "dog snout soother" its all natural not expensive and it works really well. The company I believe is called the natural dog company... I believe, not 100% however easily found by googling the product itself. Even if they lick it, it's soaking in there. There are some amazing before ans after photos on the web site
