Default shots, yes or no?

Is there a thread already on this? looked through the first ten pages and couldn't find anything. If there is a thread would you link it here?
I'm adopting a 10 week old puppy in 3 days who had his first shots about a week ago. Shots is one thing I have never looked into when it comes to dogs (with my kids I did a lot of research on shots and there is a ton of different thoughts on it).
My current dog is caught up on all his shots (he is 2 years old).
Is there any reason NOT to get shots done or to stop after they get there first year? Would love to hear what thoughts there are on this topic or get a link to a similar thread.
Thanks!

The protocols for vaccines are changing because the research shows over vaccinating is risky. I follow Dr Dodds vaccination protocol:

As I said, vaccines are something I have never looked into. I always just kept my dogs (and cats) up to the vets standard. Then once I had kids I looked into vaccinations and saw how controversial they are. Crossed my mind to look into it now for dogs too. But thanks for being so helpful, Chelle.

I put Vaccinations into the search and found some helpful sites and I also checked out yours, onyx'girl and msvette2u, thanks
I will do some more research on this but I am thinking I will do the first year as normal and then go to every 3 years. But I will read a bit more! Thanks everyone

This is the best protocol to follow. Distemper and parvo and that's it besides mandatory rabies. Titer instead of booster.

Give puppy shots series - then do booster at 1 year. Distemper is out there - dogs get it - dogs die from it....had it happen to one of mine -

I did through 1 year and then titer except for any legally required vaccines.

Where is this dog coming from, you say "adopt", generally people say that when they get from a rescue or a shelter.
If from there, definitely follow your vet's guidelines. Seattle area vets are very good and I'd trust what they said.

If from a good breeder, they should have recommendations for you.
