Default Intermittent diarrhea, and a possible cause....

Kira has had some intermittent diarrhea for over a week now. Prior to this bout, her stool has been firm and dark.

Thinking back, I recall her picking up and eating some geese poo. This is the third time I caught her with geese poo. Apparently she likes it, and living on waterfront property, offers lots of opportunity for it.

What are the odds that the geese is responsible?

Odds are HIGH in favor of the Goose poop.
They are loaded with parasites and bacteria.....including Giardia.
You should probably get her stool checked, and have them put her on something.

If you are on waterfront property read up on giardia. Then grab her poop and take it to the vet tomorrow. Could be the poop, could be the water.

Cannot remember all the things they listed in the Whole Dog Journal in an article about "Bad Water" but there are a few things that dogs can get from water. I can't find it.

But I know Giardia is one of them, without a doubt.

Yep...skipped right over that whole waterfront property thing.....
BIG BET that the dog is experiencing a Giardia problem....
Stool check is in order.....and you may have to have it checked a few times.....Giardia doesn't always "show up" positive at first.

Living near water you definately should get her checked for giardia but I would also check into a Leptosporosis vaccine. It won't help her diarrhea but it is contracted through wildlife urine and water that wildlife are in. It can be passed to humans also.

Did anything ever show up in the stool from the geese poo?

Thanks for asking.

I took her to the vet, and the stool sample showed a "moderate amount" of giardia, and nothing else. She's had a battle with giardia since her first vet visit, so I'm not gonna get all twisted over it.

She's been on meds for 2 days, and I add a couple tablespoons of the Science Diet Light canned food to her regular food, her stools have firmed up nicely, and she seems fine.

I don't think it was the geese poo, I just think it was a flair up of the giardia, that she already had.
