Default Cold weather?

I have a 6 month old pup and it's been in the 40-50 degree with the occasional soft wind in IL lately and I was wondering if this is too cold to let him outside for an hour or so? I just feel terrible keeping him couped up in the house but I don't want him to get a cold. My backyard is attached to my garage and I could leave the door partially open? He is a indoor dog and aside from dog parks and bathroom breaks he's not outside much plus we just moved here from a warm climate Cali to be exact so him being outside there was not an issue when its 65-75 degrees.

If you go out with him for playtime or walking, he'll be fine.

I don't ever like leaving my dogs out unattended, otherwise hard to tell if temperature is an issue or not.

40 or 50 degrees? No way, that's not too cold to go out and play. Actually he probably likes it better. You sound like me, thinking that's cold. Are you in Texas?

Well that is good to hear! I've been keeping him all couped up in whatever room I'm in because we JUST moved 4 days ago and being all boy and all puppy he gets into anything and I've been wanting to let him out in the yard for a litttle bit while I get some work done but I've been too scared.

I'm actually in IL near springfield but we just moved from California where the weather is great all the time haha.

he'll love it. My dogs get more energy and crazy excited when the temps drop. they've been driving me nuts today. Remember, they are a double coated breed. The undercoat is their insulation. It helps regulate their temperature. Also keep in mind, as cold as it can get in Illinois, you're probably gonna have one very fluffy boy come winter time because the undercoat will actually thicken up depending on how much exposure to the cold he gets. The breed was bred to work outside in pretty much all weather with their handler and sheep.

This is going to make me sound like a terrible person, but last time I went to my home town, we were trying to get some sleep. Sheldon kept getting up and moving (we didn't have his crate, and apparently a blanket on the floor wasn't cutting it for him). Then he decided it was ok to poop on the floor (his first accident in over a month). So we put him outside for the night. It got to about 40 out, and he didn't seem to mind a bit. I can't wait to see him in the snow tomorrow!!

Dax loves the cold. He could be out in very cold weather for hours playing. He definitely gets more energy to play when its cold. I think you might be surprised at how much more energy your dog has in that kind of weather as opposed to the warm weather!
