My 16wk old boxer mix ate a dead mouse. I think it was probably brought in from outside. My cats will go and hunt in the back yard and kill a few mice. Anyway, I saw Benji was chewing on something other than the bone. Well I went over to get it and pulled it out of his mouth and jumped and dropped the mouse (wasn't expecting it) and then he grabbed it and swallowed it hole.
![]() Do I need to make him throw up? He seems fine. |

Watch him close, most likely be fine, but the mouse COULD have been diseased/poisoned... IF you feel the need to make him vomit:

Boxers make the BEST mousers!
Our youngest girl is fast. The cat moves them room to room, the dog catches them.I wouldn't get to worried about. Dogs eat all sorts of disgusting things. If you are really concerned, or if you had poison down to kill the mice, call your vet and get advice. I would not try to make him vomit a mouse up unless instructed by a vet to do so. |

He's absolutely fine, it's napping now after running around with Meega and Tucker (parents' dog). My parents are out of town, so I have 5 dogs as they have 3. I'm pretty sure it wasn't poisoned as neither of my neighbors poison them, and my cats have fun bring "presents" to me of moles, mice, chipmunks etc.
It sure did surprise me though that he just swallowed the whole thing before I could grab it. He sure is a silly boy most of the time, and is getting so big I'm thinking he must have mastiff or something as he's 16wks and 35.5lbs. |

The boxer should be fine, my cousin had one and it ate everything and I mean everything. "Bob" found a tube of grease for a grease gun and decided that he would eat it, never checked up and never got sick.

He should be ok. I would think even if the mouse had poison in it, the small amount it would've injested would not harm a large breed puppy. My barn owners bird dogs keep the mouse/rat population under control at the barn, and it's never done them any harm.

UH, this isnt a good idea to tell people to make thier dogs throw up....ESP if they dont know anything about it. They can seriously hurt thier dog. I DONT reccomend you make your dog puke unless you have spoken to a vet. (I know someone who did this & their dog got VERY VERY ill from the H.P)
