The Dept. of Justice put this into their definition of a Service Dog:

“Service animal means any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability."

I know the federal law trumps state law if the state law is more restrictive, but the law I posted (IL) still limits the type of service dogs in training allowed in public to those types of service dogs since the ADA doesn't give rules for SDIT... Plus it seems to say only a credentialed trainer is allowed to bring SDIT in public, I don't think it says anywhere that a person training their own dog can bring them in public.

Unfortunately from what I've been told, this also seems to mean that people with service dogs that are not "guide, leader, seizure-alert, or seizure-response" dogs do not get protection from state law or local law enforcement since the state/local law only mentions those types of SDs...
