Here are some pictures of a boy we possibly want to get but he is 9 weeks old and only weighs 2.7 lbs.. I am quite worried he may be a dwarf and want to avoid this before I take him home.
Breeder disagrees, and vet says he's just a "runt"
He received his health certificate as well
His litter mates are all on the smaller side but not like him (they average around 7lbs for the males)
That's really small... I'd ask if they can get a second opinion from another vet. How big are the parents? Were they health tested? Can you post their pedigrees?
I would be concerned about medical problems even if not a dwarf. I would hope that once puppy is eating food it would have caught up. I am not a breeder. what does the veterinarian say? Have the cleared this puppy and can you talk with them?
I don't know if the parents were tested but they do come from a reputable breeder in Jacksonville Florida (the parents of the pup)
Here attached is the lineage, if this is of any help
That is some pretty close linebreeding. Linebereeding has its place, but I'd want to know that the breeder had a specific goal in mind... I would pass on this pup and this litter. Just my opinion.
Yikes! I'd pass for sure. The parents are half siblings, that's not even what I'd consider linebreeding. To me, that's inbreeding. High risk of health issues, and the pups are already underweight for their age. Run away.
no no no - this pup should not be sold to ANYONE for any amount of money past a token.....it should be kept or placed with soemone responsible who understands they may be taking on a possible long term vet bill
The puppy looks much, much younger than 9 weeks. Looks like it isn't just a small 9 week old, looks like a pup that is not developing at a normal rate.
Just stating from the little research I've done on the parents, but you just never know if there's backyard breeding, etc like others stated. Thank you all for the comments, I definitely won't be taking him home but I was just wondering about his future outcome and seeing if this is even typical or not because I was so worried! I could not believe my eyes
oh be assured . It is textbook back yard breeding.
