Need exercise advice for super hyper White shepherd

My Maverick is a year and a half. My husband and I rescued him 2 months ago. I just love him! My current struggle is his chewing and digging. He stays in our backyard. He loves it there! I read that hyper dog needs a lot of exercise. We walk for an hour a day. We do some basic training after. He has his rope, stuffed toy, and Kong to chew on. But he still never runs out of energy! He's like an energizer bunny! He slows down sometimes and I can tell he's getting tired. But after half an hour, he's back to his hyper self. When we are not watching him and are inside the house, he goes and starts digging or is chewing whatever he can find. He usually does this when we are not in the yard so it's hard to correct him right on the spot. Are there anymore activities I can do that won't be too expensive and is doable with our work schedule? Any suggestions will help! Thanks!

PS. I am thinking of buying him a backpack for our walks......

I would get a kennel for the dog and stop giving him full access to the back yard.

Also get him some real exercise. Exercise where his tongue is hanging sideways. Walking isn't exercise.

Check into bikejoring. I was once in your shoes when it came to exercise, and bikejoring was my solution. We went from 2-3 hour walks down to 45 minute bike rides, and the dogs would run 5-10 miles versus walking <5. You can read my current picture post to get a better understanding of what it looks like here:

Finally, I have pics of all 4 dogs (2 GSDs + 2 Huskies) bikejoring together!

Hope that helps! Good luck.

I googled this. This is actually also a good idea. I am a short 5'2 height and when we are playing, he sometimes jumps on me with full force and took me down, twice. He's a 90 lb dog that doesn't know his strength. LOL

Thanks!
