Default Where to sleep at night

Should I put my 8 week old puppy in her crate at night and close the door (for sleeping) or should I just let her lay down on the floor in my living room (or perhaps beside my bed in my room)?

You need to ensure that anything she can get at will be safe for her to chew and ingest. The best way to teach house training is to confine the dog when you cannot pay close attention and when you sleep. Crating her when she sleeps, since she is an animal that would in the wild be in a den, they feel comfortable in a safe place where they understand the boundaries.

The crate, next to your bed, is probably the best bet for you baby-puppy.

I also put Rusty's crate beside my bed. It worked out well. It also made potty training easy because I could get him out quickly, then back to the crate.

You would be surprised at the trouble their little butts can get into when left unsupervised!
