A bit confused on how my pup is looking.

Okay, apologies in advance, I'm new here and not quite sure how to use the site.

With that said, I'm a bit confused on how my German shepherd is appearing as be grows. For instance, he is ~6 months old, yet all of the other 6 month old GSDs that I've seen look much bigger.

He has a shorter coat, and white markings which lead some to believe he's mixed. When I picked him up however I was introduced to the parents, where the father was a huge beautiful saddleback and the mother was a bit smaller blanket back.

My pup is very thin in structure, with a smaller head than many other GSDs I've seen. Am I being paranoid here or is he looking like he might not be full? I thought he may just be younger than I was told, but his adult teeth are already in.

Here's him! https://m.imgur.com/a/103Rl

I don't think he is a mix but could be wrong. He just may be smaller. How much does he weigh?

He was about 47 lbs when I took him for a checkup a couple weeks ago. I'm assuming a little over 50 now?

Looks good to me at 6 months.....

I forget now..but I think all 3 of my shepherds looked a bit gangly at 6 months.

Keep that picture and at a year post the two side by side....You might be surprised.

Small does not equal less in GSDs. Quicker, less prone to joint issues and live longer(in theory). There is a reason BCs are cheater dogs in flyball, they are just about perfectly sized for quickness and speed. That and their insane drive. I have two smaller GSDs now(female is tiny) and I have as much fun with them as my dearly departed mutant giant Banjo. They are still GSD, and attitude and disposition make up 99% of what makes dogs special anyways. Eat less too....

Completely normal GSD, and not thin at all.

At 6 months they go through all kinds of wonky stages. Head looks good. Some go through a real tiny pinhead stage and then the head grows.

Bigger isn't always better, for sure. I agree with Nancy, they go thru wonky phases and comparison should not be done. Your pup looks adorable and pretty normal for the age.

Here is my pup at 4 months, though he sure doesn't look that young.

These were taken 5 yrs ago today, my TBT contribution a few hours early
