A bit amazed

I have never in my life seen a puppy who at 8.5 weeks, whine or bark to go outside when they have to pee/poo.

It is amazing my husband and I how smart this puppy is. She had just barked at me, and I said "What?" she barked again. I asked "Outside?" with that she started getting all "bouncy" and ran to the patio door.
Within 10 seconds, she did #1 and then 2.

This is shocking to me. I have a savant for a pup. :D

I have a now 9week old who was doing the same thing but I have two older dogs to be examples.

I have had some quite intelligent breeds of dogs in my lifetime. So with my first GSD I expected nearly the same behaviors and learning patterns. I ended up in the same amazement as you when I brought my pup home quite early & within 3-4 days she had potty broke herself. I started training earlier than usual & by 10wks she was saying momma. Must be something to the potty thing. Post some pics for us! Be sure to share milestones & tricks with us, we love to hear about them. Congrats on the smart little pup, wish they all learned so easily.

OMG, is your pup a cutie!!! :)

I did post the day I got her. I have been trying to get her pic I had taken with my hubby for the profile pic, but it isn't working. Let me go and try it again.

Very Happy for you :) I just wish mine would learn... 12 weeks and I feel she is no closer now than when we started. She will go anywhere, except her crate, unless I take her out every 30 min or so.
she just doesnt get it, :( hopefully she will catch on in time.

I had a mutt dog decades back that I had gotten as a pup. I was besides myself cause she didn't care about where she did her business. I'd wake up to her crate full of poop and pee and then of course, (visualize this) Her tail would go swoosh swoosh due to her being happy to see me. I had crap/urine going all over the place. She NEVER cried/whined to go outside.
Once she was 5 months, it was overnight that she quit going in the house/crate, etc. After that, she would have her bladder explode before ever having an accident in the house or her crate.

I am VERY grateful how Zoe is due to her having water poo right now due to the change in eating. She woke me up at 2:30 am because she had to go, and then at 5:45 am.
She just got done eating a wing and pumpkin, played with her ball and then her other toys. Here is how she is sleeping right now LOL!!

These guys are smart! Russell amazed me by using our dog door at 10 weeks old, all by himself, to pee and poop outside. :)
