Talking New Rescue Puppy - GSD/Beagle Mix?

After months of real estate and lawyer 'stuff' and debating w/hubby what type of oup to get... We finally moved and got settled and were in contact with a rescue group, waiting on a GSD pup or GSDmix to pop up. Memorial Day weekend we came across this sweet baby, one of a litter of 5 who was abandoned at a high-kill shelter in SC and rescued and brought up to Long Island...
We were told by the rescue that they *think* she's a GSD/beagle mix... The vet says he agrees with that, too. She certainly has the right coloring! She was 10weeks when we got her and just over 6lbs... Now she's about 9lbs. at 13weeks. She's got a great personality, a little mischievous and very smart, sometimes 'wild and crazy puppy' and other times just wants to curl up on my lap and snuggle.

Meet Schatzi! What do you all think she's a mix of??
8-9weeks (Rescue's photo)

(Here's her full album: Schati Photos by Jezebel3745 | Photobucket)

(Yes I spelled her name wrong when I created the album )

Here's her page on the rescue site... If you scroll to the bottom, her siblings are listed and you can see their pics for more clues. CALLIE - pup's Web Page

Thanks for your feedback!

I would venture to say the guesses so far are on target. she definately shows signs of both beagle and shepherd... she is a doll!

Thanks! I think she was the cutest too! I was painting the bedrooms that week and didn't get to check the 'new puppy' postings and when I finally did after the first adoption event on Saturday, she was the only one left! (Imagine that!) but they did have the litter separated at different events that day so I assume there just wasn't anyone ready to adopt at that particular event that day. (We were on the phone and emailing right away and snapped her up first thing the next morning... While we were filling out paperwork and going over things with the foster, at least 4-5 different people asked about her and were told she was already being adopted! Talk about timing!)

How cool. You found your house and then waited for a rescue dog to bring home. I dig you guys. Her name means sweat heart in German right? Anyway, she is one and so are you.

Thanks Mac's mom! Yes, Schatzi is a term of endearment in German... Basically 'sweetheart' or 'sweetie'...

Hubby and I just celebrated our 10year anniversary last month, we've been apartment living for the last 12 years, but have wanted a pup all along (as did our 7&8y/o daughters) we just didn't like the idea of confining a dog like that, without a yard, and up til last June we were both working FT, too... (Now I'm a stay at home mommy!)

Hubby wanted a purebred GSD, but we really didn't have thousands to spend on a pup from a breeder two months after finally buying our new house and I preferred the idea of a rescue, since 3 of my 4 dogs growing up were rescues! (PLUS, I'm 14 weeks pregnant and knew I wasn't up to the responsibility of such a LARGE dog at the moment, but wanted to get the pup before the baby!) This little one is much more manageable, a 12 week old PB would likely be too heavy for me to even lift at this point! It's certainly a learning experience and maybe hubby will end up with a PB later down the line (like when he retires and can be home to train it!!) Until then he's quite smitten with his little 'Sweetheart' and she has taken quite well to our family (though hubby and kids are a little jealous that I ended up 'alpha' it seems, and Schatzi is my little shadow, but since I'm with her pretty much 24/7, it works for me that she listens best to me!)

Congratulations on both your new babies! The picture with the pig is my favorite.
