Thanks Mac's mom! Yes, Schatzi is a term of endearment in German... Basically 'sweetheart' or 'sweetie'...
Hubby and I just celebrated our 10year anniversary last month, we've been apartment living for the last 12 years, but have wanted a pup all along (as did our 7&8y/o daughters) we just didn't like the idea of confining a dog like that, without a yard, and up til last June we were both working FT, too... (Now I'm a stay at home mommy!)
Hubby wanted a purebred GSD, but we really didn't have thousands to spend on a pup from a breeder two months after finally buying our new house and I preferred the idea of a rescue, since 3 of my 4 dogs growing up were rescues! (PLUS, I'm 14 weeks pregnant and knew I wasn't up to the responsibility of such a LARGE dog at the moment, but wanted to get the pup before the baby!)
This little one is much more manageable, a 12 week old PB would likely be too heavy for me to even lift at this point! It's certainly a learning experience and maybe hubby will end up with a PB later down the line (like when he retires and can be home to train it!!) Until then he's quite smitten with his little 'Sweetheart' and she has taken quite well to our family (though hubby and kids are a little jealous that I ended up 'alpha' it seems, and Schatzi is my little shadow, but since I'm with her pretty much 24/7, it works for me that she listens best to me!)
