Default Work Puppy-Raising Balance

I've finally found a puppy and if everything goes well he'll be coming home early July. I work 8-5 (leaving home at 7 and getting back at 6) Monday through Friday. From what I understand I can't leave the puppy in his crate for that long. So what should I do?

Pay someone to come into our house and take the puppy out once or twice during the day?

You are correct, a puppy (I'm guessing eight weeks?) cannot go without a potty break for that long. Someone will probably have to let the pup out more than twice within the time you're gone.

I found a girl in my neighborhood that comes over and let's my puppy out 2-3 times a day Monday thru Friday. Spends about a hour each time with her. It works GREAT.

What some people do is set up an ex-pen attached to the front of the crate. You can then use a litter pan of some type for the pup to relieve itself. You can also ask the breeder to keep the pup a little bit longer. Some breeders offer this at an additional price and will start some training as well. I have my litter in a pen with a litter box and a couple crates. I just use wood shavings picked up from any farm supply store. Try to get the flakes and not the fine stuff. They also have water bottles (the type you would have for a rabbit) for puppies you can hang on the ex-pen.
