Moving!!!

I'm worried about how Thor will be with the moving process. What should I do with him? I've managed to take frequent breaks during packing to go outside and spend time with him but when we get into the new place I won't be able to be stopping every so often especially with a 1 year old and I will have to be setting up sleeping places, and getting food in everyone's mouths. I'm worried how Thor will take it when I just put him in a new place and let him explore on his own. What should I do?Attachment 205657Attachment 205665

#1 -- make sure his collar/tags are updated to your new & cell phones.

#2 -- home is where you are, they move easier than you think.

#3 -- if there were previous dogs in the new location you may want to make sure the inside is marking free. I blacklighted the carpet and walls when we moved to our place because I knew there was a dog there before. I hit anything suspicious with an odor enzyme like Simple Solution.

#4 -- when we moved we just hauled our dogs back and forth with us. There were several trips. I just made sure they were secured in a room or the backyard during the movers part and the rest of the packing and unpacking appeared boring to them. As long as there are familiar smelling things around and their people it is fine. You may not want to just leave him in the new yard and drive off. If you have to make several trips just haul the dog along.

Best wishes in your new location. They really do fine.

Keep as much of your normal schedule as you can. His regular bowls. Normal food. Mealtimes as normal. Crate in normal place (if in bedroom of old house put in bedroom in new house). His bed, blankets. His toys/leash/collar.

And MAKE time to walk/play with him during the day, doesn't have to be alot but he matters too!

I brought mine to the new location before the move. They explored and got to smell everything. I have lots of dogs, so I did one at a time.

I don't really do anything to ease the move. Dax is the only one who hasn't moved with us so far but I imagine he'll be great about it. Shasta doesn't care as long as her dog bed makes it to the new house lol. The cats are so used to moves, they don't yell about it anymore after a little bit in the carriers. Dax is pretty go with the flow. He knows something's up and still just wants to play and be silly. We're moving in about 6 weeks. I've learned as long as we don't make a huge deal out of it, they wont either.
