Vaccinations?

She got her first set at 6 weeks old. How many sets and how far apart should they be?

Did you take her for her first set? If not, have you had a checkup with your vet yet? They should tell you exactly.

I would follow this protocol:

Dr. Jean Dodds' Pet Health Resource Blog | 2013 and 2014 Canine Vaccination Protocol - W. Jean Dodds, DVM

You can check at petMD too.

AAHA Vaccination Recommendations calls for every 3 to 4 weeks with a vaccination started at 6 weeks "not counting" as maternal antibodies may interfere. 8, 12, & 16 is recommended.

Dr Dodds is good and I mostly use that advice though we did give the DHPP and not separate parvo and distemper vaccines. Adenovirus (H, for hepatitis) has made a bit of a comeback in recent years.

Many give the Rabies vaccine as late as possible and NOT at the same time as other vaccines.

Many never give a leptospirosis vaccine or if they do, wait until the puppy is older. If you choose to give it, I would give a separate set of shots of a 4 way vaccine 3-4 weeks apart later this summer (Fall is prime time for lepto infections). I don't give one, personally.

Mine got his first set at 6 weeks and just got his 2nd shot 10 weeks. He gets his 3rd a month later, so he will be 14 weeks. I think that one will be his rabies. The vet said that they should get at least 3 parvo but she likes to give gsd 4 parvo since gsd, rotties, and I think doverman are more susceptible to parvo then other breeds.

I'd do a total of four distemper/parvos if the first was given at 6 weeks for the reason above - mothers immunity interfering.

Yup, I'm following Dr. Jeans schedule too, my Hans is 11 weeks now and will give him his last round of shots.

Who here administers the shots themselves?

And I"m not d-worming him either.

jocoyn 04-22-2014 10:07 PM

I have administered shots but get the vet to do it fore the official records.
You don't mean 11 weeks and you are done? That is too early to be done.
Why not deworm the dog? Pups do tend to get worms.

 I think 11 weeks is too early to be done also. I also got my pup deworm. And some influenza up the nose. You never know, and it's always better to play save :D
