Default Puppy-Adult Fur

My 7 month old Charlie has gorgeous fur on the sides but has this funky coarse strip of hair going down his back. The color all still blends well and the thickness is consistent with the rest of his fur it's just a different texture.

I'm wondering if his fur is changing to his "adult" fur or if this is too early. Or if he's still going to go thru a few more fur changes until he's a bit older. I'm used to the older GSDs but this is my first puppy GSD.
Vet says he's healthy as can be so doesn't think it's anything to be concerned about.

Thank you!

Following this. My five month old has the same. The hair is about four times longer than the fuzzy hair.

yeah that's adult fur, it will spread down the sides

I have a long coat so it's really easy to see it on her :P she had really shiny hair that was longer and a little wavy on her spine, then it gradually moved

Lisl had very wavy/curly fur on her back and rump when her adult coat was coming it. I didn't think it would ever straighten out, but at about 14 month it did. Her topline looks much nicer and the fur is much straighter.

That is indeed the adult coat, and is normal, though happening later in your pup than most!

My 16 week old has had this strip coming for a week or two, now. I hate it.

That's definitely adult hair, those usually starts from the base of the tail and moves forward through the spine.
Tyson had this when he was around 13-14 week.
