Puppy Biting and Growling
I have an issue with my 8 week old puppy German Shepard. He keeps biting me and my wife really hard and breaking through our skin. We got him from a pet store in Okinawa, Japan when he was 7 weeks so we only had him for a week. We tried the Yelp method and leaving the room and yet he still continues to bite really hard. I know the puppy is going through teething. Now we did try give him is toy instead of biting us hes plays with it but when he gets bored of it and sees me and my wife walk around hes goes right back on biting us.
We went to an obedience instructor to take a look at our puppy and he told us that it is a bad puppy because hes never seen and puppy with that much aggression. Mind this instructor been training for over 30 years and also on the judging panel for JKC agility competion here is his website («ê Æë¢ AWeB x@¢ PûwZ@| Okinwa Dog Training School(«êhbOg[jOXN[) |) . The puppy tried to bite the instructor and he immediately pulled his ear to the ground to calm him down and the puppy continues to fight back and would growl. He told us to take the puppy back because the dog is way to aggressive and that when he gets older the dog would hurt me, my wife and my daughter.
I want to keep the dog and give him time but my wife is taking his word on taking the dog back to the pet store. Assistance with this matter would be greatly appreciated.
GSD puppies are landsharks. But luckily, there are things you can do to curb this behavior. Here is a good thread that is a sticky in the puppy behavior section.
Puppy BITING!!! Teaching Bite Inhibition
And a good video.
Does the trainer have experience with very young GSD's? Sounds like pretty normal German Shepherd puppy behavior to me.
Yeah I would hardly say your 8 week old puppy is aggressive.. just a landshark! Read the thread that David Winners posted and take note.. It will not last.. as with the "growling" I'm not there so I don't know, but I'm gonna guess he's a vocal little guy and that is he way of playing.. I have friend with dogs that get excited and make all kinds of noises that, if you didn't know better, you'd think they were fighting.
Your GSD puppy is a tiny BABY and NORMAL!
More importantly, no matter how much it hurts and how much you bleed what you are seeing is PLAY. Puppies bite, puppies growl and it's all PLAY.
That's why it's so important for us all to do the research BEFORE getting any new puppy of any breed so we are better prepared for the NORMAL !
David Winners posted a great link about the biting but there are more 'GSD' things to come for you so make sure you also look thru ---> Welcome to the GSD/FAQ's for the first time owner - German Shepherd Dog Forums
Also want to get a good start on ---> http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum...s-puppies.html
