Dandruff

Baron is 13 weeks and I believe his adult coat is coming in. He seems to be getting dandruff. Anything I can do to help or prevent? He has a mostly black coat so it's very noticeable.

What are you feeding him? When I switched Ranger to a salmon based dog food (rich in Omega-3) his coat got very soft and pretty. Just a thought.

He's on Nutri Source large breed puppy.

I looked that up on dogfoodanalysis.com . Isn't it a chicken based dog food? Some dogs are allergic to chicken. Also it is a 3 star food, which isn't a bad food, but you may be able to get some of the better foods for the same price. Of course more stars is not always better. My dog was switched to one of the 5 star foods for a short time but I switched him back when he got itchy.

I hadn't heard of that site. Is there a food you'd recommend in the same price range? I can't spend more. Costs a fortune already to feed the two adult dogs.

Our dog had dandruff and itchy skin and turned out to be from the mites that are naturally on their fur. As puppies their immune system isn't strong enough to keep them from getting out of hand. Antibiotics help get them back under control. I guess it's a common thing.

I would look into this. I was just guessing with the food. I know the food change helped my dog but you should probably talk to the vet to rule out any other problems.

maybe a bath usuing some natural, organic or medicated shampoo.

Yeah, we found out it was mites from the vet. Not food related. He had a skin scraping done to confirm it. He's doing so much better! :)
