Default GSD color... Advice

When I took Yogi in for his shots back when he was 10 weeks a lady approached me who said she'd been a GSD breeder for 30 years. She said you could tell the coloring of the adult coat by the puppy undercoat . She proceeded to "preen" my pup and tell me he was going to be a bi-color... Both his parents were normal black and tans (mom a saddle and dad being a darker blanket)... My question is: Is what she said true? He doesn't seem to be changing color at all but then again he's only 13 weeks. The brown creeped up his neck slightly but his black is everywhere. (except feet, butt, and a small stripe on his muzzle). IS he going to be a bi-color? Id be a little disappointed if he wasn't a black and tan. I know, I know... I shouldn't care. He's a great pup and I'll love him no matter what.

I'd say he's a black/tan and just goes to show you, someone can breed for 30 years and still doesn't know squat

Agree with Diane - I don't see any pencil toes nor tarheels - indicators of bi-colour.

Both black and tans and bicolours would have a black undercoat under the black areas, and a tan undercoat under the tan areas, so it's a bit of a mystery to me what clues she may have been looking for in the undercoat.

Thank you. Yeah, it's a mystery to me too. She did have a lot of good info for me and I'm choosing to forget the unhelpful info.
Thanks for the info on toes, now looking at pictures of bi-color GSDs I do see this. Anyone have any pictures of their bi-color GSD pups?

not a puppy pic, but this is Dodge as an adult, the only brown he had on him were his feet/lower leg, he looked this way as a puppy, coloring never changed.

I agree B&T, especially with both parents being B&T and he's missing tar heels and pencil toes like Lucia mentioned already

Delgado's a bicolour

He has too much tan to be bi color. I see a b/t in the making. My boy is literally a spitting image!!!
