Puppy weight. please help

Hi Guys,

My little boy will be 12 weeks this thuresday. I weghited him on sat. at the vets office he was 20.4lbs. His parents dad is 105 and mom is about 90. He looks thin to me. he had diarreah for about a week that was about 2 weeks ago but now he is good some time he will have loose stools bout other wise he is good.

My question is his brother is almost 30lbs now even a sister is 26lbs. should i be concern with the weight?

The breeder told me he should be a big boy def. bigger than that.

Eating wise i give him a cup and half in the morning and cup and half for dinner but for both times he doesnt finish his food i dont know why. he is now on Eukanuba because of the diarreah and i will switch him to Orijen once its always firm stool.

any suggestions about the weight? or what i should do?

keep your puppy lean! You should be able to see/feel the last 2 ribs, see a nice tuck underneath, good firm tone. Do not overfeed or concern yourself about his adult weight - he will be what he will be. Keep him lean as his parents are oversized.

Agree, don't worry about being big, just keep him lean, and keep him diarrhea free as best as you can. If youre sure its the food and eukanuba is helping maybe try a lower protein food, if he still gets diarrhea definitely do a stool sample at the vet.

Got a picture of your boy? :)

I have tooken 2 times to the vet stool sample and first one he had giradia and round worms and he was on antabiotics and dewormers and when i took the second one it came negative giradia but there is couple worms left so we are working on that.

I will post pics when i get home tonight.

my concern is that he looks alittle thin to me too. when i took him from the breeder he was the 2nd largest puppy in the litter. but now he is looking thin to me.

I wouldn't worry about the weight either unless he is having bouts of diarreah. You definitely want him on the leaner side than heavier.

I would suggest that you might want to split his food up into three meals instead of 2 meals a day. He might not be able to finish everything in one sitting. I fed my pup 3 times a day until he was 6-7 months old and then went to 2 times a day.

I can understand your concern my dog who is now almost 18 months old is still very lean (72 lbs). I just resigned myself to the fact that he will be light for a while until he fills out (I hope). As long as your puppy is not sick don't worry about it. :)
