Default Car sick

I did a search and did not find much.

I have been trying to take Emma with me more now that she has her shots.

She is getting car sick most of the time. Sometimes a little, and sometimes a lot. These are short rides - 10 - 15 minutes tops with stops to pick things up.

I have tried the not feeding a hour before we go, but it is not making a difference.

Is there something I am not doing correctly. I have her ride up front in the truck seat secured with a riding harness. Would the floor be better. She wants to crawl in my lab some of the time too. She can lay over the center console, but that is a far as the harness will let her.

On this last ride I thought she was doing great, sitting up looking at the world going by - then yuck. The other times she was laying down sideways in the seat looking at me. I did not give any treats either, but was considering using them to teach her how to load and unload.

Speaking of riding harnesses - are there good one out there? I got a simple one from pets smart for now but she will quickly be out growing it

Any help would be appreciated

You may want to try crating her and put the crate on the floor.

One of my dogs would get sick every time we went in the car. I covered all surfaces with towels for easy clean up. She eventually out grew it.

My first shepherd was a hard car rider. She would start drooling the second the car would start... and just get worse and worse.

I worked hard at getting her comfortable in the car... start.. stop... start, drive to the end of the drive way and stop. Over and over till she could make it a fair distance without throwing up. At one point I was giving her Dramamine to help with the motion sickness and that did help alot.

I would, but it wont fit in the truck. I have a call into the vet on this, but in the meantime I have covered the leather seats and console with a heavy table cloth (Plastic top with cloth backing) I have the cloth backing up and covered that with an old blanket. Everything duct taped to not move.

My truck smelled horrid this morning, until I discovered the mess between the seat and console on the floor. I may haft to pull the seat to get it all clean up. Going to try the small vac first and them a small scrub brush. I can almost reach.

Ill let folks know what the vet recommends.

I tried everything (no crate, crate, covered, uncovered, drugs, no drugs, back of vehicle, front seat, midseat, etc) and in the end it was just time that made the diff and finding the spot that made him most comfortable.... And during the process of waiting I made some minor routine changes... Like no food before for several hours before travel etc. how old? My guy now sits on the back seat floor board and hides his head under the seat...with no prob. But he was prob 8 or 9 months old to get there

We have this and it makes me nuts.

I have tried everything.
He went through a period when he no longer got car sick, but then it came back with a vengeance.
Ginger capsules work only sometimes.
Makes me sad because I take him out a lot less than I would like to because of this.

Default Car sick

Dante use to get car sick too. Our vet gave us Veratumaublm 30c 1/4 dropper twice a day. I'm not sure if it was this or that he out grew it but he does not get car sick any longer. Yay!! I hope this helps.

Talked to the Vet today. She said there were several meds that will work, but that she might outgrow it, Could be many causes bur right now it is probably nerves - new and different things, with no escape spot - her crawling to me was a sign of her discomfort. Besides most car rides to date were either home from the breeder or to the vet or me shopping with her not having much fun time. I had her in a cart at the pet store - she did not like that either. Probably a memory of coming home from the breeder as we did stop by pets smart to pick up a few things and toys for her.

She recommended no food for several hours before and to try 1/2 a Bennydral (sp) capsule to start. She has stronger stuff if I need it especially for longer trips if this does not work. Most of this stuff will make her sleepy, which could be good or bad, depending on where we are going.

We will find out this weekend.

Thanks for the help
